Harrods has pulled it off yet again. Their outrageously talented artists and stylists never fail to give us Christmas windows that make us gasp. But this time, they’ve teamed up with Swarovski, and they have surpassed themselves.
Windows that rock
Fifteen extraordinary windows have been designed to transport passers-by from the streets of London’s Knightsbridge to an enchanted forest in Austria. Icy tableaux, created from literally millions of glistening crystals (including 480 crystal curtain strands, last seen on the Hollywood’s Oscar Awards ceremony set) depict the eerily beautiful stillness of wintry woods.
A beautiful woman in a shimmering ball gown wanders through a moonlit forest amid silvery trees, their branches swathed in bejeweled vines that twinkle with drops of crystal. Her destination is an opulent mansion, the venue for a glittering ball.
Among the window centerpieces is a show-stopping dress inspired by the Roaring Twenties and designed by Ralph & Russo. It is embellished with a staggering 152,000 SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS that took hundreds of hours to create, which may make it something of a bargain at £230,000…
As if that isn’t enough to stun the senses, there are also catwalk jewel creations from the red-hot Swarovski Runway Rocks collection. Don’t miss a glimpse of Bird’s Nest Headdress, by Shaun Leane, Philip Treacy and Alexander McQueen, along with Goddess, by Farah Khan, which was the crown worn by Beyoncé in the artwork for her latest album ‘4’.
