Super-sexy lingerie retailer, Victoria’s Secret, has teamed up for the ninth time with SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS for the hottest event on the fashion calendar, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. It airs on Tuesday, 29 November at 10/9C on CBS. Australian model, Miranda Kerr, will be seen stalking the runway in sparkling, seductive style in the company of Alessandra Ambrosio, Adriana Lima, Candice Swanepoel.
Eye-popping glamour
We have über-talented designer Jenny Manik Mercian to thank for much of this extravaganza. Among the looks that show off her stunning use of SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS is an intricate Matador-style costume worn by Brejke Heinen, and a jaw-dropping Passion Fan Wings that took seven years to create. The 23-carat gold-plated copper wings weigh in at 35 pounds and feature 105,000 painstakingly applied crystals. Giuseppe Zanotti completes the spectacle with his wondrous crystal-encrusted footwear.
Manik Mercian is inspired by the contents of a particularly opulent jewelry box. Each Passion Fan wing features color cocktails of poppy-oranges and reds, with fuchsias, vibrant turquoise, royal blue and chartreuse, all contrasting spectacularly with hues of metallic gold. Whispers of lace, brocades, embroidery and beading exude sensuality. “I just go into this ultimate fantasy world,” she says, simply.
This year, 38 models are wearing 69 costumes, including 31 sets of ‘Angel wings’, and two million SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS have been used on exquisite bespoke lingerie, designer couture pieces, shoes, stockings – and, of course, those iconic Angel wings. There’s also an impressive line-up of world-class musicians, including Kanye West, who appeared with a special surprise performance by Jay Z, Maroon 5 and Nicki Minaj.
A marriage made in heaven
Todd Thomas, the designer behind the show, said “It’s the collaboration with Swarovski and the use of luxurious SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS that make for some of the most dramatic pieces I’ve ever had the pleasure of creating on the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.”
